Andrea,

My horse has gotten abscesses when it is really wet here in Florida.
The vet is coming out tonight because I think one is popping out. This
ought to be the last one because I am putting about 20 yards of dirt in
her stall. When I'm through she'll have to jump to get inside. My
dream, a stall that is never wet....

The thing that works best for me is soaking the area in Epsom salt and
warm water several times a day. Ichythymol(sp) the nasty smelling
black stuff is also a drawing agent. I put Ichythymol on the area, wrap
it and soak it in Epsom salts. If I even suspect a bruise or the
beginning of an abscess, I use the Epsom salt. That usually nips it in
the bud. This one snuck up on me because its in the back foot and that
has never happened before.

Good Luck.
