Boy, have I gotten alot of mail. Didn't mean to stir up dust but
wanted to share what I had learned in talking to others in the field of
nutriton, homeopathy etc.
Regarding wormer and vaccines. this was not my theory but feel that
it makes sense and agree with it. Vaccines and wormer are hard on our
horses and definitely stress them. The reason why not to give either
when a horse has been sick or stressed in any way.=20
The disease epm finds it's way to the nervous system when the immune
system has been comprimised. Most horses evidently carry the parasite
but few succoumb when systems are not up to parr.
I just asked my vet about the ivermectin, and he agreed yes, it does
have a neuro transmitter inhibitor in it but researchers say that it
works on the nerve cells of the protozoans and thieir neve cells are
different from horses and the horse is not affected by this. In the
same breath he said they have found a new drug that is only slightly
better than what is currently used for epm and researchers have doctored
the results in its favor to get this drug on. This does not give me
confidence in any claims of safety for the horse then. I do not know
much about the different wormers but have decided, as we need to keep
our horse worm free that we will have fecal checks and worm when
indicated. As for vaccines, I was told by relaliable sources that these
new combined shots 4 way 5 in one and even more combined is just too
hard on the horse and to give seperate shots seperated. Also those that
I have talked to felt shots given when a horse is young protects the
horse for alot longer than a year and does not neccessitate given
annually, again not fact but what I have learned from those I spoke to.
AGAIN, this is what I have learned, it makes sense to me and just
want to share with you so you can be aware. Linda=20
