Hi AT,

Re irregular feeding times...at Cal Poly, we teach in the equine
outreach program that's it's OK to feed within a reasonable window, for
just the reasons you list. There's been some research (no, I don't have
the cites right here) that showed that feeding at irregular times
(outside a one hour window) decreased the digestive efficiency around
15%. However, that's more than made up for by not having to lose
"efficiency" when a horse starts tearing apart the stall because it's
dinnertime on the nose and you've still on the way home stuck in
traffic.

What I was always taught (by folks who did their Ph.D in equine
nutrition) was that there are alot of other management practices
(gradual changes in feed, quality, parasite control, etc) that are alot
more important than feeding with a stopwatch. Especially if your horses
have something to pick at between "meals", I see nothing wrong with
feeding within a three hour window.

Just .02.
