What a croc! Horses in nature do not follow a precise schedule. I
have *never* followed a fixed feeding time schedule. In fact, I don't
want to -- even if fixed times were more convenient for me, I'd vary
the times. Not only for the reasons you noted, but because an
endurance horse on ride day *cannot* stay on his normal schedule. IMO
you want to change as little about his dietary conditions during the
event as possible. If he's used to varied feeding times, he'll be
less likely to be distressed (mentally or biologically) on ride day
when he can't stop at his scheduled time to eat.

My episodes of colic in the last 20 years: one, gas colic, at a ride.
I pulled from the ride, Kahlil recovered quickly.
