Hi All,
Just starting to wind down from crewing Tevis again, and catching up on
e-mail. One of the questions I read was about how to get from vet check to
vet check. Although it would be nice to have more than one crew, it can be
done with one crew seeing the rider at all crewable vet checks. This is how
we did it again. Did the normal stuff at Robie Park on Friday, catching up
with old friends and new. Went to the ride meeting and then made sure the
riders had everything they needed for Sat. Got to sleep about 10p.m. Up at
3a.m. helped saddle or whatever else was needed. Left Robie at 4:30-4:45a.m.
Usually we would go straight to Foresthill with the rig- this year had to
ferry a friends truck to Auburn. At Foresthill unload the trailer because if
your rider gets pulled, thats where they take the horse. Still have time to
drive up to Robinson Flat and get there before the first riders. Crew for
the rider(s) and then drive on down to Michigan Bluff. More than enough time
to get there, set up, and get a burger or ice cream (Thanks Bob!!) When your
rider is ready to leave M.B., you better be ready to leave also, because its
only about an hour's ride or so to Foresthill. Foresthill is only a vet and
go-no hold- but most riders spend a few minutes there letting the horse(s)
eat some more. At this point, the crewing has a big break- you won't see the
rider till Auburn Overlook(the official finish line), so its a good time to
take a break. We went and took showers and had dinner(thanks again
Bob!!)then went to the finish at about 2a.m. Waited for our rider to come
in(finished at 2:52) went thru the vet there, and then led the horse into
McCann Stadium. Victory lap and post ride vet check and the BUCKLE!!! Take
care of horse and get some sleep before watching the B.C. judging at 10a.m.
All this is just showing that you can do the Tevis with one crew meeting
you at all places. We had 3 horses to crew for with 1 finisher ( her 21rst
Buckle!!! Yeah JULIE!!)
Judith and Rio were pulled at Robinson, Becky and Laine at Red Star Ridge.
Laine is still at Davis, but I understand is going back to Al Marah soon.
I guess I'll stop rambling on now
See some of you at the Fireworks 50 Aug 2!!
