I don't think there are many, if any, newbies on this list who
believe you can learn to ride endurance only by participating in a
listserver. The posts I have read indicate that the individuals in
this group are serious about the sport but ALSO LIKE TO HAVE A LITTLE FUN.

I also disagree strongly that many answers become self-evident when you
ride your horse. I like to ride and read, ride and talk, ride and read
some more. I can relate what happened on my ride to someone and get a
better perspective on what actually occurred; I can hear something and
then try to apply it in my next ride. In my experience, very, very little
related to riding is "self-evident." I have absolutely no intention
whatsoever of signing up for my first ride without feeling confident that
I and my horse are as well-prepared for that ride as we can possibly be --
from our respective breathing & heart rates to transportation to apparel and
food. That is simply my personality type.

Apparently you are the personality type that likes to "do" things without
researching and preparing yourself properly. You should consider yourself
lucky that no major mishaps befell you and your horse in your early
attempts at this sport. But as it takes all kinds to make the world go
round, and as many of us tend to be rather conservative and careful in all
aspects of our lives, and like to read and talk and learn a lot from other
people's experiences before taking the plunge ourselves, you should accept
that and just skip the posts that don't interest you, rather than
attacking those who post questions you are not interested in reading or
responding to. There are others who are interested, and I'm grateful for
them.
