Nope, didn't mean to be scathing or condescending, meant it as a wake up.
The impression I got was that Gloria wanted very much to stop being a
"newbie"

The ONLY way to do that is get on and ride (not get on ridecamp and type).

Ridecamp can provide a great wealth of information from other endurance
riders, but it is no substitute for riding the horse.

And I have to disagree about there not being any silly questions. "What do
people wear?" is a silly question. People wear what is comfortable,
period. Some people (I think they are crazy!!) ride in SHORTS!! I ride
in a long sleeved shirt (they think I'm crazy!!)

Knowing what people wear is not going to stop you from being a newbie.

When I got into the sport here is the steps I took:

1. I read about Lari Shea winning the Tevis Cup in _Practical Horseman_
(i.e.discovered that there was such a sport).

2. I took my horse out on the trail and rode his butt off.

3. I called the AERC to get the ride calendar.

4. I picked a ride out of the ride calendar and called the ride managers,
they sent me an entry form.

5. I showed up at the ride and rode my horse's butt off (and mine).

Was I wearing the wrong thing?? Yep, chafed the hell out of the inside of
my knees where the inseam on my bluejeans bunched up. Did I die? Nope.
Did my horse die? Nope. Did I learn something? Yep.

Can ridecampers share information? Yep.

Can ridecamp turn you into an experienced endurance rider? Nope.

p.s. The last endurance ride I rode in I wore...you guessed
it...bluejeans. I no longer have trouble with chafing the inside of my
knees with the inseam because I have learned how to ride without having my
pants bunch up at the knees. (i.e. it wasn't what I was wearing that was
wrong, it is how I was riding)
