Little Finn HATES flies and believe me southern Maryland has 'em bad.
I find the very light weight mosquito netting type masks/hoods to be
best for trail riding. Even so we've had a couple of mask induced
episodes. Here at the farm a lot of our trails are in the woods and by
the evening the woods are getting about half dark. A couple weeks ago
I took Finn out about 7 pm with his mask on for the first time this
summer. I was wondering how much it was affecting his eye sight in the
semi-dusk and did he see that stick across the trail? Just as he was
about to plant a foot on the stick he looked down and SNAKE!!!!!! He
pogoed straight up and bolted. Every stick the rest of the ride was a
potential viper!

Last night after a quick blast around thru the woods with flies in
chase, I dismounted out in the open to walk in the last mile. Suddenly
Finn was running backwards paniced, shaking his head. A may fly was
under the hood and he couldn't shake it off! I smashed it against his
forehead. Poor thin skinned Finn.
