It's a mountainous area here in Germany. I have no soil analysis made,
but the vet said commonly this is no Se-deficient area. The Se-value was
*slightly* below the "low" limit of scale, so he said there might be no
serious deficit (sorry, don't have the actual values on hand now). Now I
add a Vitamin-E/ Lysin/ Selenium-supplement and keep attention.
I'm sure she has enough Vit.E, Vit.A, carotine etc. because she gets
lots of young and green grass. Till end of April she performed very well
feeded with hay, although the Vit.E-content of hay is poor.
I read that blood analysis does *not* show lack of certain minerals or
elements unconditionally, because the body tends to accumulate reserves
and keep the level within the blood constant for some of them. I'm
wondering if this is true for Se (as for potassium). My vet couldn't
answer this.
Magnesium, Jodine or Thyroid are also under suspicion.
Still very few informations.

Hm... are there some of the experts/scientists lurking ?

Thanks for your input, Bonnie.
