So glad to hear about all the changes at 0ld Dominon. I had looked forward
to doing the most prestigious {IMH0} ride in the country, ever since I became
interested in Endurance riding. Finally last year everything came together
for me, the right horse, the money, the time, the crew, and the way to get
there. {a long way from Florida!!}
I have to admit {as Brenda Baird can atest to} that I was one of those
persons, who after last year's fiasco, said I would never be back. Yes, I
completed {one of only 11 to do so} and yes I top tenned, thanks again to
Brenda, as I would still be wandering the Mountains of Virginia without a
clue of where the trial was, due to no markings.
Pete Fields promised me that things would be better this year, and I am so
glad to hear that he was right. Actually the first 40 miles were glorious, I
had a wonderful time, {even if I did have to find the trail by following
tracks}. The rest was sheer hell. I finished on sheer determination that
this trail was not going to beat me. Afterwards, I felt that I had never
done anything so stupid in my life. Climbing Sherman' s gap at 1;00 in the
morning, thinking I PAID M0NEY T0 D0 THIS!! ;-p. And having both my husband
and myself in tears, crossing the finish line at 4;45am and having to gallop
the last 3 miles to make it in on time.!! Again thanks to Brenda Baird
knowing the way in, and letting me go in in 10th place. She is also one of
those Saints of Endurance riding. ;-)
However, now a year later, I have to say that completing the 0ld Dominion is
still one of my greatest achievements {next to raising a wonderful daughter}
;-) If everything you are saying is true then I'll probably come back again.
I feel, given a well marked trail, the 0D is truly the epitome of Endurance
riding. P.S. I have had the pleasure of riding with most of those Saints
that remarked the trail, and I have to say that they are the epitome of
Endurance riders!!

Cindy Bell
Wameco {just give me a map of the trail and I'll do it by myself, thank-you}
