You are so right. The OD is in a class by itself - unlike any other ride.
You finsish the OD by using your head your head - or as Mathew puts it
"make haste slowly". If you force that trail the trail will win every time.
The ROC in Utah last year was a tought rocky ride with lots of climbing,
etc., but nowhere near the OD. The OD keeps coning at you and coming at
you. Adding insult to injury the hardest climb comes at 80 miles - usually
done in the dark when you are tired and your horse is tired. To save your
horse you need to tail up and jog down, but if you are not in good shape
you are too tired to tail up and jog down. Then when you think you are
home free coming out of Libery Hall with only 4.7 miles to go you have to
climb back over Skyline Drive - easy climb at the start but a killer at 95
miles.

Actually Teddy, Kathy told me to save the bat for the next time she pit
crews for me. I don't think I understand!
