Does your horse have any fever or nasal discharge? When was your horse
vaccinated(and which vaccines)? I recently went through a frightening
experience with my older horse; lumpy under jaws, very tender, eyes all
swollen up, breathing restricted, and we thought strangles, but with no
fever or nasal discharge, no loss of appetite, then he began having
neurological symptoms like rhino. We still haven't diagnosed with
certaintly, but it was definitely not strangles (I had been doing the
hot compress thing too). The most likely cause at this point seems to be
a vaccine reaction. You might check into that with your horse. Good
