First Aid Kits

I'm in the catch up mode again, but wanted to make one important
suggestion for the first aid kits to be carried. It's fine to put the first
aid items meant for use on your horse in your saddle bags, but for the
people items, put them in a fanny pack, or one of those little kits you
carry on your belt. If you and your mount part company your bandages, bee
sting stick, etc won't do you much good if it leaves the area attached to
your saddle and horse, especially if you need them!!
What do I carry?
Although I've restocked it over the interveening years I have a
First Aid pouch I got as a completion award at the Edgemone Challange
(thanks, again, Ivey & Marilyn) several years ago. It's only 6" long by
2.5" diam., but stuffed in there I've got a couple of steril packed gauze
pads, part of a roll of vet wrap, (good to secure bandages on people as well
as horses), small tube of antibiotic ointment, bandaids, a bee sting stick,
a small plastic pill case with benedryl and IB, small packets of ammonia
inhalant, benzalkonium chloride antiseptic & medicated burn cream, and last,
but not least to help against the cold should my mount and I be seperated
*way* out in the middle of nowhere, waterproof matches and one of those
emergency space blankets that you can get in most camping stores.
Water, pen knife, Power Bar, etc are normal items to my mind and
therefore always present in/on my fanny pack.
Okay, guys, aside from the change of clothes I left back in the
truck and the garbage bag that turns into a raincoat when needed after
living in my helmet, what did I forget???
