I am working with others to set up a controlled study on the effects of diet
and conditioning on future performance in endurance rides.

Basically the horses will be ridden under LSD (long slow distance)
conditions. Two arabians, 1 thoroughbred.

We will be gathering blood (full analysis) and (tentatively) AERC vet check
data throughout the effort. Electrolyte balance will be monitored in the
blood over a period of time for electrolyte administration and feeding will
be closely monitored and adjusted for optimum performance.

I know that I am not really sharing much but would like to pulse ridecamp
for:
1. the type of data that you, as a rider, are interested in
2. any knowledge of past research done in this area--->nutrition AND
conditioning based.
3. the input of ridecamp veterinarians would be greatly appreciated (Frasier,
Tomlinson, Ralston, Truman P, etc...) AND of course Tom Ivers. (Tom I would
be honored if you responded to this).

Why am I doing this? I am having the opportunity of working with some
nutrition experts on an approximate 1000 mile trek I am taking this summer.
Three horses are going. My background is researchy.....B.S. Biochemistry,
M. S. chemical engineering, PhD candidate (thought I would go back to school
after 10 yrs of being a professional).

Careful and well thought responses direct to me with a cc to ridecamp would
be greatly appreciated. By the way I will write to ridecamp from time to
time during the effort.
