Gate into holds

It seems to me that it is much more fair to the horse to get his full break
after s/he reaches criteria. What do the rest of you think? As far as I
know, this is the first ride I've done that I remember them doing it this
way.

I think this type of system allows the horses to be run too hard and doesn't
allow the horses with the best recoveries an advantage, which they have
earned by arriving at the ride better prepared/conditioned. Is there a
reason why all AERC rides are not done the same way?

Karen: I was at that race. Met your husband at the water tank and asked
him about his sports saddle hat. We then saw you at the dinner and my wife
and I talked to you briefly about SS covers.

My impression of the ride was similar to yours. I came into the lunch vet
hold 3rd in the 50 mile. A another competitor I had been riding with came
into the check maybe five minutes after I did. This guy, in my opinion had
over ridden his horse, for the last 15 miles. After I vetted in, with in
the first 15 minutes, he was still walking his horse trying to get the HR
down. He was still walking the horse 30 min later. Don't know if his horse
ever recovered but if it had he was able to meet critiria within that hour
he would be putting his horse at risk.

I need all the help I can get and the way they usually run the rides it
gives me an advantage because I try not to over ride my horse. I was able
to pick up two spots at the 3rd hold on this ride. At the Scotts Flat ride
I was able to pick up 4 positions at the last vet check.
