I too recently bought a half Arab that went sour shortly after our brief
six ride romance. So if you eliminate a health problem we may share a
similar equine problems. In our case, she decided that her pasture mates
where too important and I too insignificant. What works for us is some
really annoying basic training to teach her that it is always best to pay
attension to me. We begin with the smallest of things, anything that
addresses her respect for me. For example, I spent two weeks working on
getting her to stand while I mounted. Now we are persueing bigger tasks,
like giving to the bit, bending, moving forward consistently at a pace I
set, and working through destractions. We start each ride with her teaching
me what we need to work on.

It is a long way from being on the trail but I know when we get there it
will be safer for us both. Consider consulting a trainer who understands
your goals and works on you and the horse. Since I live in Bozeman, MT it
was easy for me to find trainers, but I had to look harder to find someone
to train me to train this horse.

good luck elisa
