Karen,

What a bummer, both to have this old wound reopened, and to have your ride
foreshortened.

Regarding the prevention of proud flesh: My vet gave me a powder to put on
Chaco's leg wound where there is about a silver-dollar-size piece of flesh
without skin. This powder is an irritant and it keeps proud flesh from
developing while giving the skin a chance to grow over it. It's been a month
since the wound occurred, and so far no proud flesh! The skin is gradually
growing and the diameter of the flesh area shrinking, butit is a slow
process. The vet thinks there will be very little to no scarring. If you or
anyone else is interested, I'll find out what this stuff is.
