Hi All:

Been lurking in the background on this one for a few days and finally feel
compelled to dive in where angels (except me) fear to tread.

I will say with out qualms, that any one who goes out looking for an
endurance horse based on lineage, is looking for a big disappointment. The
laws of genetics just do not work that way. Furthermore, the "NAMES" in the
arab world are not equated to endurance performance. I will challenge any
halter champion to an endurance competition!

Our 20+ years and many miles in endurance have shown that no one lineage is
predominate in the top ten category. Yes, there are certain lines of good
horses but if you dig deep you will find that salesmanship to good horseman
also contributed to those lines. (I have helped some of the current "top
ones" get where they are)

We have always obtained our horses on several basic premise. First came the
feet and legs, second overall conformation, third heart and lungs, fourth
(and here is where many were rejected) was attitude. After obtaining the
horse we then found out the full breeding background and pedigree. Certain
"strains" do show up but never enough to "prove" a certain sire or lineage.

If this really worked out, breeding the top TB stallions to the top TB mares
should give you many winners but this has never happened in racing to this
day.

The top endurance horses will continue to come from those persons willing to
cull the poorly conformed horses (and in my estimation that includes 95% of
the show stock now in existence) raise the good ones as horses should be
raised with room to exercise, condition them for endurance and not for an
afternoon in the park and maintain them as HORSES not playthings.

I could continue with examples from my own experience and that of a few
others but it would get boastful and boring. Be glad to exchange E-mail with
any one who cares so we do not clutter the forum. I might even describe the
funny thing that happened on the way to the forum!!

I am waiting for all the arab show flame throwers now!!
