I put a flake of hay in each manger of my 2 horse for them to nibble on the
way. As for grain,I feel you need to know your horses because I have watched
mine after they eat. I have two that immediately tank up on water after
eating. So, those I make sure I feed 45min to 1 hr before trailering. It
really is tough when I'm leaving at 4:00 AM for a ride and have to get up at
3:00 just to feed. I'm just afraid they might get constipated or colicy.
Also, I have offered water during rest stops and was only able to get 1 to
drink.
