Volunteer,weight and Snakes

Geez, just have been enjoying all the info and finally decided to put in a
little input of my own. First about volunteering. I have found that when
you call for a p & r before your vet check that instead of only counting
for 15 seconds it is always more accurate to actually do it for the full
minute because it is amazing how in just that minutes time that the horses
pulse will drop. All my mare has to do is rub her head on me and her pulse
drops between 5 to 8 beats. It just cracks me up. I feel you should do
the whole minute because the vets even do it that way when they are
checking your horse out.

Secondly, about weight, I used to be a featherweight but after putting
Cloud Stirrups on my saddle it is amazing how heavy they are. I thought I
had really put on the weight scared me half to death. Ended up getting
into the lightweight catagory.

And Lastly, about SNAKES, POISONOUS ONES! Never saw any in this one area
we train in until the night before I rode I told somebody "Oh no I haven't
seen a rattler in there in the 2 years I had been riding in there." Low
and behold came hand-galloping around a palmetto bush and there big mama
was. Let out a surprised scream and my mare thought goody goody time for
more speed. Blasted by Big Mama with her looking mighty surprised herself,
wondering which way did it go, which way did it go. So the moral of this
story is: If you haven't run into any rattlers lately DON'T TELL ANYBODY,
I REPEAT! DON'T TELL ANYBODY! By the way the horses we have have never
been freaked out about snakes either. Hum, maybe I shouldn't have said
that.
