In a message dated 97-04-30 11:05:24 EDT, you write:

<< 1. Do you use LSD in your training program? Yes
If no, please explain why not and skip to question 6.

2. Give a brief description of how you use LSD as part of your training
program. I start horses in LSD and with beginning horses that is trying to
keep the HR below 150 regardless of the terrain or speed. After a few months
the LSD work is just done on the long week end ride and as the horse becomes
fit I add interval work in the LSD ride.

3. What is your definition of "long?" depend on the horse's level of
fitness. For a beginner: If during the week he is doing less 5 miles per
ride then a 10 mile week end ride is long. I would consider 15 - 40 miles a
long ride.

4. What is your definition of "slow?"Again depends on the fitness of the
horse and the HR determines the speed. An unfit horse can walk hilly terrain
at 5mph and have a HR of 150 a fit horse can canter at 10mph with a HR of
120. My slow is dertermined by HR.

5. Give a brief description of your PHILOSOPHY of using LSD in a training
program. Great for putting on a base.

6. Do you use a heart rate monitor? Always

7. What is your background/experience in horses? riding 13 years Endurance?
10 years

8. What is the longest ride you have completed? 100 mile one day or 285 5
day

9. How many rides per year do you do with one horse? depends - but will not
take a horse to a race sooner than 3 wks after the previous race.

10. How many horses do you have in endurance training? 4

11. How would you describe your current level of competition?

c. Regularly top ten .

12. How would you describe your level of competition goals?
Use same list as above. - I would like to be as competitive as my horse's
ability allows.

13. How old is/are your horse/s? 10, 10, 7, & 6

14. What region are you in?SW

15. What is your weight division?FW

16. Comments.:

If you send me your responses, I will compile the information and send it
back
to the list with my discoveries. If I get enough responses, all those
questions at the end may be useful.

Thanks for your time.
