Sundowner Trailer Problem

I just wanted to post a note to anyone owning a 1997 Sundowner Horizon
II trailer (mine is a 3 horse slant). After only our second trip in
this new trailer, the horse front escape door (big enough for a horse
to exit the trailer through) FELL OFF THE TRAILER! Upon closer
inspection, the hinges used on this particular trailer had not been
welded correctly and the bottom hinge had sheared and took the top
hinge and door with it. The symptoms just prior to the hinge breaking
were a binding sound in the hinge itself and to watch the hinge while
opening the door, you could actually see it bend.

Last night I returned my trailer to my local dealer and while there,
he was actually able to see the living compartment door's bottom hinge
do the same thing! Please check your hinges on your trailer doors.
I can't imagine the terror in having this door fall off while travelling
down the Indiana Toll Road, which we were just on, or having my young
daughter open the door and have it crush her as it fell off the
trailer.

Spring is a great time to check your equipment. Start with your
trailer! Just wanted to post this so it wouldn't happen to anyone
else.
HAPPY TRAILS!
