On Misty I got to the point of "oh my HRM is not working - I need to
tighten the girth". I'd reach down at a trot and take up a hole in the
girth. The first time I did this it somewhat startled her. After a while
she just ignored it when I'd do the girth tighten on the fly thing.

Then one day we rounded a corner and there were two horses up there and
Misty decided the race was. So we gallop about two miles into the vet
check. I guess I looked pretty funny coming in laying on her neck holding
the billot strap in one hand and the reins in the other.
