Linda,

After your last note, I went out and really checked over Istys' legs.
Uhoh, hard bump just below the right knee, vet book says "splint", a trip
to the vet and it is confirmed. He (the vet) says it's old, probably pre
'97 but no way to age it. It's not huring the horse and she moves freely
without favoring the leg...cool. His only down grade on her is that her
cannon bones (ea. side) are 2-3 mm to the outside of the knee.
Devastation....now what do I do? He says endurance is iffy, she may not
hold up under repeated long distances (Is this true? Is he guessing? What
about other endurance horses).

At the moment I am not out of any money, just a year of training time. I
got her from a friend up in WA who would not talk price at the time I
picked her up, saying "try her out and see if she works for you". That was
a year ago, and now that I'm moving, I figure, I better pay up or leave her
behind.

So, do I leave her behind and find the perfect horse (which I can't
afford), ride endurance anyway and see what happens or look for a new
sporting challange for us. Grumble, grumble, my plans for CA just went to
hell on a vets observation, grumble, grumble.

More to come in the continuing saga of the endurance wannabe.

Thanks for your help. I may be grumbling, but I'm no longer ignorant
(well. at least about her conformation).

Alan
