Fire Alaarm's training

Another story. (Sorry for to take up space, but Deb Cooper has
trained many top endurance riders mounts here on the West
coast.)

I have to speak up about Deb. If it wasn't for Deb, I don't know
if anyone would ever be able to ride my horse Fire Alaarm. I saw
Alaarm when he was 5 years old. I really liked the way he was
put together. However, he had never been ridden and the current
Arabian trainer could not get on him. Apparently, they had eight
people holding Alaarm down so one could get on. I never saw this,
nor did I own him when this happened.

So, I knew I was getting into something that I wasn't about to
train myself. To give you all an idea of how wild Alaarm
was, during his pre-purchase vet exam the previous owner couldn't
even control him on the lunge line.

As soon as he passed the vet exam we trailered him to Deb's (at least
he trailered). :^) He stayed there for three months. Deb did an
absolute fantastic job! After a month and a half I was coming over
to Deb's and riding him in a halter.

During his stay, he only had one little mark. It was a rope burn
from the resistance training. It was actually pretty minor. And
when I came out to see him after this incident, Marga, Deb's partner
came running down and told me what happened. They had already had a
vet out for him (even though it was pretty minor). The nice thing was,
they tended to him, like he was their prized horse.

If you ever ask Deb about Fire Alaarm, she'll tell you he was the
scariest horse she's ever trained. But she also fell in love with
him.
