just wondering

Okay, so I have a question that I've never seen before. I have a three year
old gelding that is my daughters endurance prospect. We have just started
working with him. When he was little and we had him gelded there were some
complications. The intestinal lining began to slip out of the incision as
he ran around the next day. One thing led to another and he ended up
spending time in the hospital. Now it's years later, It appears that he has
a hernia in the same area. Could a hernia come back to haunt us on the
endurance trail? Am I looking at another hospital stay ($) to repair this
or should we just leave it be? The Vet ($) will probably be making a visit
($) soon when our new baby makes an appearance. This guy is the son of the
Tevis pony and Doc Thunder Bask. The new little one will be a full brother
or sister. Any advice is welcome. Jane
