While I will not comment on the article on the conflict between chaos and
order, it seems more applicable to the growth of political and social
systems rather than scientific investigation - which is the our usual
source of the "fistfights". While I am not going to give any examples from
the history of science - I got chewed out for that once before - I will
state that for the most part there haven't been many examples of "instant
revelations" in science. Most of the advances have come because the
currently understood models did not explain new observations. At that
point a very show methodical process ensued to understand the meaning of
the observations and to refine the current model or trash the model for a
better model.

I can understand were educated differenced of opinion are necessary for
this process, but I don't quite see where "fistfights" are benefical to
this process. There is a definite difference between chaotic behavior and
stochastic behavior - the latter which I think more describes what goes on
at times.
