Poop in the garage (short story)

I was so eager to have Kahlil home that I brought him here as soon as
the fence was sufficiently finished, before building a barn. The only
shelter in his pasture at this point is a small clump of pines. I
thought it would be OK as it's spring now (according to the calendar)
and he's always been an outside horse.

Yesterday I came home from work early in a spring snowstorm -- the
temperature was only in the twenties, but the wind was blowing 50 MPH!
Poor Kahlil was huddled with his back to the wind, covered in icicles,
looking miserable.

Having nowhere else to put him out of the storm, I moved the cars out
of the garage, put down some cardboard (from the boxes we used when
moving), spread some hay and brought him in. Kay and I scraped off all
the ice and toweled him dry.

Well, this morning I was reminded again just how much manure one horse
can make. Oh well, at least *most* of it was on the cardboard!
