Hi Julia,
From your post, I'd assume your horse isn't being aggressive in the
stall, just raising his head too high. In that case, I'd try haltering
him in the stall. Put the leadrope around the base of his neck creating
a loop back to your hand. Slide the rope up to his poll and gently use
downward pressure to get his head down. When he responds, praise him
and stroke his neck and the base of his ears before trying to put the
halter on. Leave the leadrope at his poll in case you need to start
over. If nothing else works, and you really need to get to work on the
knee, use a longer rope and fashion a halter with figure-8 formation
over poll and nose once you move the rope to the poll and get his head
down.
