a test of Strongid C and weight gain

What convenient timing. I have recently been considering putting Star on
Strongid C. I moved him to a new barn where all of the horses are not on a
regular worming schedule (even though the barn managers assured me that all
boarders were required to do so). He has lost scads of weight (around 75
to 100 pounds) and I fear that parasite migration may be part of the
problem, although he may just be adjusting to a new locale. This is an
ideal test to conduct the response to daily wormers in a pasture that is
most likely loaded with infective larvae. I check him weekly with a weight
tape (not precise but good to detect trends in weight) and will report on
the effectiveness of the Strongid C after a month or so (although results
may be swayed by the fact that the grass is starting to come in, I think I
will be able to judge whether the Strongid works by comparison with other
horses on the same field). He looks thin right now, and I really hope he
puts on a few pounds before I start conditioning - I have had his teeth
done and my vet strongly recommended switching to Strongid C. I don't want
to move him if I don't have to because this is the only place near the city
that has outside board - he is not an inside horse.

I actually rode (with a saddle) for the first time in 5 months! Yesterday,
I hauled to a converted rails to trails and we walked for 45 minutes
(exactly what he needed after so much time off). I was so happy to be on
my horse and he was glad to be out as well. The mud has been wretched
around here. So bad that I can't even ride in the fields for fear of
damaging tendons and destroying what grass we have. Ah well, I will enjoy
my Spring Break even if I can't ride and just push back our first
competition a couple months or so.
