Swimming is great non-impact exercise that works the cardiovascular
system without the pounding on the legs. I'm no expert, but the amount
of exercise your horse gets from it depends on how well he swims, and
how high in the water he remains. My poor horse looks like an aligator
when he swims, with just his eyes and nose above water. He really has
to work at it and probably does the equivalent of a road mile in about
three seconds! <vbg> My friend's mare just coasts along like a big
grulla sailboat and doesn't even get her back wet. I don't use swimming
for exercise. I use it in the summer as a post-exercise cleanup!
