Ridgebacks are an Aftrican breed of dogs which were bred to hunt
lions. They are large [our female is 95 pounds, and the males can
easily be 150 pounds], powerful, shorthaired tan-colored dogs with a
characteristic ridge of hair which runs in the reverse direction up
their spine. They are capable of covering great distances with a
long, floating stride. I often think that if they were horses they'd
definitely be seen in the dressage ring. Although our dog is
terrified of our housecat, she has stood off marauding black bears in our
campsite!
