Well, not the same as AERC.

Carol went to this one. SAME Weekend as AERC.

I met a NUMBER of NATRC riders at the AERC. Some from region 5. ???? Seeing
the other side??

Carol reports the overall attitude was 'cool' less friendly ..sorry
The most friendly were from OTHER then Region 5 ..thats our region.

Region 4 she says was great. and those from CA.

There was some who thought the use of the HRM was NOT allowed on the NATRC
rides and other who WANT it to be DISALLOWED.
Still some are not up to speed. Dark Ages?

The shoe issue.
The BOD did approve a change in the correct direction. The '''width' issue
was addressed, BUT you left it up to the discresion of the Vet Judge. Some
vets and judges at the conv said the shoe would not be accepted at their
ride. SO you see the problems are starting before the rides. They did not
like the width OR the HEIGHT of the MUSTAD shoe.

WHY did you not just be specific? OR set a standard. NOW its up to the
personal opinion of the Vet. SO at one ride I am ok with the #1 Mustad shoe
then at another the vet says NO.
I can see this one.. if I am 'gaining' on superstar AND the Vet LIKES the
SS, I will be knocked out for and an illegal shoe.
A certian protest in the making here folks. IF I get hit on this --you can
bet I will file.

You know in some regions the POINTs and WINNING are ALL there is.
Remember I spent my FIRST year learning about NATRC in REGION 5.

Now the Easyboot approval is GREAT. NOW I wont have to withdraw.
What happens IF the ride does NOT have a shoer?
What about one day CP/N rides? are they to put the shoes back on before
vetting out?

NATRC just HAS to drop this shoe stuff.
HOWEVER I made it though last year for 390 miles -all open div, so I can live
with it for now. Dont HAVE to like it. Horse hates rocks.. go slow..

Horse management. Nice change..but here again you left it up to the Vet..
So at one ride we can take them for a walk about in the AM before the jog out
and at another ride the vet is old school and wants the cold start.
Of course for those vets I recommend they (the vet) be tied in the corner of
a horse trailer all night .. you know, so they can naturally identify with
the horse.

And its also up to ride mgmt right? So the 'rules' are optional and not
consistant at ALL rides. You need to make these rules FIXED. Force those who
dont want to go along with the main-stream to do it anyway.

Sliding Picket. It was on a test basis last year. Same deal, its up to the
mgr and the vet. Now guess what ALL the region 5 rides did ... it was NOT
allowed. Is it legal this year and a rider option??? NOT mgr or a judge?? Did
not see this one.

I expect the Region 5 rides to be the same as before.

Overall I see NATRC beginning to change for the good. I spent the last 20
years riding under the ECTRA CTR (NE no NATRC). Our phlosophy was to judge
the horse based on himself--conditon only.
We could not use LEG protection and could NOT use ice or ICE water. ANY
shoeing is ok I rode in Easyboots on all 4 one year.

I thought it strange that NATRC ALLOWS the use of ICE WATER. Where does one
get this on the trail. Cant use the stuff in your cooler since you did NOT
carry it with you?? I have seen this one before. Horse items in the lunch
truck?? NOT allowed?
Right?

The only REAL issue I have is the electrolyte rule. No sense beating that
now..
Has to change someday.. It will, as new educated riders enter into NATRC.

Finally --I DO LIKE and SUPPORT CTR. Its THE BEST method to TEACH a NEW horse
how to trail ride. How to go the distance --how to pace-- and all the other
stuff about trail riding. The stress on horse and rider is LOW, its where I
and my horse learn. THEN--when ready we go for speed and endurnace..
For many CTR is enough.. thats GREAT - I like BOTH..
MY YOUNG ones will learn slow steady going and my OLD ones can still compete
and not get hurt.
Carol is starting her OLD 26 yr horse back this year for NATRC OPEN, he can
sidepass and do other horsemanship tricks..
and her OLD 24 yr horse for LD endurance ( He did one LD and one 50 OPEN last
year-not a good mannered horse for NATRC).

Hope I did not BORE the endurance riders with this CTR NATRC stuff. Note the
differences. There is a place for both. Like LD /50/100/multi..there is CTR.
Ride --just Ride Enjoy the sport.
