Seeing Nikki re-introduced herself, I thought I might as well hop in
on the act, seeing I've been lurking here for a couple of months now.

I live in the Adelaide Hills, in South Australia. I did my first
endurance training ride in Oct 95 on a borrowed horse (and
successfully completed the full 56km) and I have since been totally
bitten by the endurance bug. Trouble is that I don't yet have the
horse to train up myself, but that is soon to be fixed.

I have 2 young sons - aged 4 and 6. The 4yo (Michael) starts school
at the beginning of next year, and that's when I'll have enough time
on my hands to get right into riding again.

In the meantime, there is also an interstate move planned for my
family this year sometime, so hopefully this year will be taken up
with finding a nice horse property, and acquiring a couple of horses
to start light work with. I'm also planning on volunteering to help
out on some of this season's rides, so I can see things from that
side of the fence.

Michael is also smitten with the horse bug, so hopefully I might pick
up a pony too. Over this past summer, we were leased a pony and we
went out riding almost every day. I would lead him on my dear old horse
Smokey (who this month died at the ripe old age of 29 - I'd only had
him for 20 years!) and we would often do half hour rides, with quite a
bit of trotting - not bad for a 4yo kid! (And I *don't* push him - I had
enough trouble keeping him off the pony when I couldn't come riding
for some reason or other).

I also keep off the streets by playing with my web page (in my sig)
and recently I co-ordinated the first Aussie "Internet Trail Ride"
where 10 of us from the Internet met and went bush in the high
country of Victoria for 3 days on horseback. Nikki came along to this
too, so I got to meet her there. There's another ride in
the planning so if there are any other Aussie lurkers out there who
might be interested in this, please email me :-)

So my future posts here will be from a real "starting out" point of
view - ie acquiring my next horse, starting out in training, then training
rides etc. I can't wait!
