Andrea and Ridecampers,
Regarding major rides in Australia.
In Victoria, our major rides (apart from State and Zone Championships) are
the Jog-A-Long Marathon and the Mt Cole Challenge.
The Jog-A-Long Marathon is a three-day, 250 km event held at Easter at
Elmhurst in the central west of Victoria. The event is named after
Jog-A-Long, the first horse in Australia to complete a 160 km (100 mi)
endurance ride in under 10 hours. This year will see the third running of
Victoria's annual marathon.
The Mt Cole Challenge is a two-day, 240 km event held in late October at
Raglan, just over the hill from Elmhurst. This event covers 160 km on
Saturday, commencing at midnight (Fri/Sat), and continues on Sunday morning
with a further 80 km. 1997 sees the running of the sixth annual Mt Cole
Challenge.
Both events are all-or-nothing affairs, not separate rides on the multiple
days. There are an unfortunate handful that have failed the final check at
each of these events. :-(
I welcome any other questions on endurance riding in Australia, especially
events in Victoria.
