p.s. In case
you were wondering, no, I don't wear a helmet, because not only is a helmet
not the only way to protect your head, I am unconvinced that...for me...it
is the best way. In fact, it is possible that just maybe, the best way
isn't the same for every person.

Kat, I'm with you..

Helmets undoubedly do prevent injury. I, for one, NEVER want to be MADE to
do anything. It is my personal choice. I have ridden for more than 25
years..over 6000 miles in competition. Yes, I have fallen and been dumped.
BUT, I have NEVER been hurt..even a little bit. I believe that is because I
am VERY careful AND because I have a background in acrobatics..which has
definately taught me (without even thinking) how to fall and NOT get hurt.

I don't believe in mandating anything except education..from then on, it is
up to each individual to make his or her own best decision based on their own
rational thinking.

And, again, we can (or should be able to) do anything we want..we need only
suffer the consequences (i.e. take responsibility for them.)
