Ponying, completion certificates, and Dakota

Hi, everybody. I usually just sit back and wait for someone to come up
with the same answer I would have, but this time nobody has; so now I run
the risk of getting flamed. You people are quite intimidating to us
"mild mannered" types (pick yourself up off the floor and quit laughing
Donna O). Oh, well, you've got to get your feet wet if you want to swim.

Deanne,

I, too, have trails that are too narrow for two horses and have gone
through the exact same problem you have. I found a simple way to cure
it. I moved the lead rope from under the jaw to the side of the nose.
The lead rope now rests along the side of the mouth when the horse is
behind you. When the horse tries to cross over to the other side and get
that rope under your horses tail it acts like a rein and pulls him back
to the proper side. My little arab used to take great pleasure in
torturing my fox trotter with the rope under the tail trick, especially
when we were going down hill. I spoiled her fun in an instant just by
moving the lead rope to the side. Try it and see if it works for you.

I use my vet bills to wall paper my bathroom. I think completion
certificates would do just as nicely.

Susan,

I was laughing so hard I got tears in my eyes. Too bad you didn't have a
camera with you. I can picture posters of Dakota chasing your other
horses with that bag in his mouth hanging in every barn for inspiration!
Dakota one is going to bring you years of wonderful memories. He's a
keeper in my book.

Regards to all,

Tori Thompson
