Was it more of an accident like it was for me (no don't sell that horse -
he's an Arab and I've always wanted to try endurance.....) or was is more of
an educated decision <g>?

Many years ago, after raising our children and working with out holidays and
vacations, my wife and I decided to take a vacation.

Our destination was Iceland!! We tried and tried to make arrangements but
all we could get at that time was a "guided tour" and we did not want that.
I saw a horse for sale and since we were living in Idaho (horse country)
thought I would try one out. That soon led to another one for my wife. After
all, we decided, we could keep a couple of horses for a year, for the price
of a two week vacation to Iceland.

We rode what we thought were reasonable rides on our own. You know, like
four to six hours twice a week. We then thought it would be nice to ride
with other people, so we tried to join several of the local clubs. Hey, they
really rode. Like once a month for an hour, say.

Well, we heard about endurance riding and then went to our first ride.
Prineville Oregon 50 miles. It was not very hard, finished in the first
third of the pack and never looked back. I have only 6,000+ miles ( I
supported the habit) but my wife has 15,000+, has represented the US in
international competition and has a horse in the AERC Hall of Fame.

Endurance Riding has provided us with the opportunity to see the Pony
Express Trail, The Oregon Trail, The California Trail and much of the
Canyonlands of Utah. In addition we have had the chance to meet many
wonderful people from all over the country, many we like to believe are
friends.

We have tried to repay some of what we have received from the sport by
working with our local organization, the regional group,PNER, as well as
serving as Board Members and Officers of the AERC.

Endurance Riding has something to offer every one, but then in return every
one must do their best to support Endurance Riding.
