Falling OVER your horse

As a new rider who has returned to riding after a 10 year absence, I have
really enjoyed and appreciated the "Falling Off Your Horse Stories". It is
nice to know that I am in good company. I ride the 6 year old ranch-raised
quarter horse named Thumper (at least until he quits or you all help me find
a better endurance horse). While Thumper and I have only "parted company"
once (which was entirely my fault) as we jumped out of a wash with a too
loose saddle, I have managed the rather unique experience of falling OVER my
horse to the applause of my farrier and a significant audience.

A couple of weeks ago, I was sure that I could fling myself onto Thumper
bareback--after all, I started from a bale of hay and Thumper is only 16
hands. I balanced, jumped, hit my ribs on Thumper's withers and just kept
going right on over--head first (no helmet of course). The crowd burst into
a cheer and once again Thumper looked tolerantly down at me with that "why
are you down there again expression". I got up, bowed and apologized to
Thumper with nothing but my pride hurt.

See all of you in Reno.
