I guess I was training, conditioning my horses while raising my kids! Since
my three have grown up and left the nest, I realized how much riding we did.
None of us competed in anything at the time other than an occasional 4H show.
We were "pleasure trail" riders. Also, the kids used the horses to go to
their friends' homes. (Thank goodness, that's an option in rural Vermont!)
My horses have seen every type of vehicle, been exposed to any noise
imaginable, and had more condition than some competition horses I've seen in
the last few years. Unfortunately, they've also been tied to almost any
object available. The good news is that they were likely happy to get the
rest and didn't "pull back" too often. We wore out lots of horseshoes-yes we
rode that many miles! Too bad we didn't know about endurance then...

At three yrs of age, I took my daughter to pre-school on her pony, guess she
wasn't too little to ride...

Just a thought for those with children AND horses to condition and train...
