So true! We all tend to generalize about our own individual
experiences. I have been knocked out of the way by out of control riders at
all distances...I have been offered help by riders at all distances....I have
been racing and when I ask for trail by slower riders they will not give it
to me...you know the mentality that "If you are going faster than me you are
going too fast.."
When someone is rude I call that person on it right there at the
ride...reponses have varied from an apology to F*** Off. Regardless of the
reponse, I feel better telling them. One thing I have learned over the years
is that: ONLY I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MY HORSES BEHAVIOR! If I bring a green
horse to a ride it is my resposibility to put him in situations he can handle
and that means rude and out of control riders - I can't tell you how many
times I have started late or have had to get off of my horse in the middle of
a ride and hold him while faster horses pass.
You can't help situations where tack breaks and I agree that riders
should be polite enough to slow down or stop BUT I am sure many of these
riders that are complaining are fearful of their own horses behavior. It is
not other riders responsiblity to look out for you.
