Trail Danger!

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to alert you of a danger we encountered on our trails
since they've been saturated and are now drying...
We went out into the desert for the first time since the snow melted
and the rain stopped. The trail looked to be in pretty good shape so we
moved out at a trot. We quickly discovered that all was not as safe as
it looked. My horse sunk hock-deep into a hole in our dune trail and
nearly fell down. It happened a few other times at a walk as well.
These are well-used and established trails.
This is just a guess, but we think the water filled pockets under the
surface when the ground became saturated, and now that it's draining
off, has left air pockets not visible from horseback. Be careful out
