I don't know how new they are but a Vosal and a Bosal are two different
items - do you have any endurance catalogs (or access to the web)? Sportack
and Australian Connection I know carry them (Running Bear may also as well -
Teddy?).You can also find them in some western catalogs.

I think they were designed to be a cross between a bosal and a hackamore.
They have a nosepiece more like a bosal -stiff piece of rawhide that really
only hits across the bone of the nose and two short "shanks" that come into
a V under the chin. So there is some hackamore like action but they look to
me more like a mechanical version of a bosal.

Can direct rein in them as well as neckrein.

The only problem I have found is you have to wrap the nose with something as
it will rub.
