As for my opinion on this cross?? Why not cross a good Arab with a well
established breed rather than something you have no idea of what constitutes
the past several generations???
You have NO knowledge of what the breeding is when you get a SO CALLED
mustang from the BLM (and I presume that is what was refered to) Why spend
money on breeding a $125 mare if you want something worthwhile???
Yes, I do know several crosses of this type that are doing or have done well
in endurance. Serena, a mare owned by a very good friend here in Boise, has
done 3000+ and generally places in the top ten. But it has taken quite a
good deal of work to do it. It was a case of a horse she could afford and
lots of hard work and sometimes heartbreak.
Consider the old saying "breed the best to the best and hope for the best"!!
! Then why breed the best stud to a questionable mare and hope not to be
disappointed???
Remember, the mustang of today is not the one of the storybooks. If you want
the ones of old then get a Breyer model and start your own herd. That is
the only way. Otherwise, realize that the lineage of the current mustang
carries TB, Draft, '57, and who knows what in its lineage.
Just my feelings, my observations, on having seen a few wild ones and
slightly(just slightly) tempered by the exceptions that I have seen on the
trail.
