>>For this reason I wish someone would start judging the shorter distances as an Enduro/Competitive. It would be so simple. The vet cards are already there. If the vet cards were used in awarding the shorter rides, people would use these rides as they should be: preparation for the longer distances.
Only "A's" would be used for placing -- simple! (Divisions
established bygrouping in MPH ranges.) This doesn't mean the rides won't
be fast, just means that riders won't be tempted to over ride.<<

Well, at least one ride manager (Terry Howe) does something like that in
the SW region. Top ten on the LD is mentioned, but I don't think was
awarded anything. BC recognition was given to the 5 best based on vet
scoring only, no showing back. I was very surprised to have my horse
get 1st BC on Terry's last ride despite finishing around 23rd out of 75
starters, 54 finishers, but she'd gotten straight As on her vetting.

The weighting, for anyone that is interested (apologies to those who
aren't) was 88 max for pre-ride vetting, 176 for mid-ride and 264 for
the completion check. (There ya go, Karen S., I 'splained it.)
