Regarding Trakheners as endurance horses. My first ride last year was on my
13 year old Trakhener who has done everything--dressage, foxhunting, trail
riding, showing over fences and raising babies. She did very well but I was
convinced that I needed a purebred Arab to compete. Perhaps ,but my mare
like so many purebred Traks have a lot of Arab blood-- she is one quarter
Arab with a grandsire by the name of GAZAL.. She handled the ride well and
had good recoveries etc. Did not see any problems with heat but I live in a
hot humid area and she is used to it. I joked that I could tell she was part
Arab because she spooked at a plastic bag after 18 miles.

Shagya horses I have been told are the Hungarian counterpart of the Trakhener
crossed with Arab--bigger, more bone due to the warmblood (coach horse?)
blood. I liked my mareand who knows I may take her out again.
