Adoption question

A local pet store is going to have a "Greyhound Adoption Day" and I'm
thinking about adopting one; however, I know little about the breed and even
less about adopting an older dog, let alone an "ex-racer". I have seen
greyhounds at many rides here in the NE, but unfortunately cannot recall who
the owners were. Has anyone adopted a greyhound, are there problems with
this breed and with dealing with "ex-racers"?

I miss not having a dog companion to take out on training rides...and I know
all the horses miss Odie as well. A neighbor dog often accompanys us, and
Kasey & Mr T especially seem to perk up and move out with energy when we
have little Lemo along. But of course I can't always count on Lemo being
available for guide dog duties.

Any information you can give me would be most appreciated. Please respond
privately as this is only marginally "endurance related".

As yes, I will certainly consider worthy candidates from the shelters...but
a greyhound sounds like a breed that could "keep up".

Thanks--
