SS saddles - are they really that good?

-Yes, for me and my horses.

Mini survey: 1) what were you
riding in before you switched

-Wintec endurance, Stubben VSD, and ancient Barnsby general purpose
The Wintec sat too high up off the back of the horse and was not
stable laterally. The Stubben was very hard, and the Barnsby
pinched the shoulders going downhill. The Sport saddle is more
stable as well, I can ride with a loose cinch, and am able to lean
down and pick up stuff from the ground occasionally without it
slipping.

2) what differences have you noticed on
saddle fit to your horse

-I don't worry about saddle fit anymore. Riding in the saddle for
3 years has convinced me it does not cause any back soreness to
my horses. They move out better, that was the biggest difference,
especially downhill. I can ride 3 or 4 days in a row and not worry
their backs will be sore.

3) and to your seat?

-I feel much more balanced, and a better rider. You sit closer to
the horse, my legs are under me more; I feel like I sort of float
lightly above the back. I am much more comfortable, as are the
horses, trotting or cantering downhill. Since you are not sitting
on a hard tree, it is the most comfortable saddle I have even
sat in.

Just FYI - I'm riding in a Baines Endurance (English type) saddle now - from
England.
