"Racing"

My first endurance ride was in 95 on the flats of eastern WA. We had ridden
"too fast", for CT, & got tired of having to fight our horses for miles. We
had worked hard at conditioning - so, thought endurance might work. Also, a
friend who was also dissapointed at the pace of CT tried, & loved it.

Boy - was I suprised! Fast - wasn't the word for it, racing - was. I found
out very quickly that to be at all competitive - it would be impossible to let
off the pace. (I had a great ride plan of starting off at a collected trot -
- - it was out the window the 1st. 30 sec.) Luckily for us - that
conditioning has kept our horses sound.

My husband & I went home thinking that it was too bad a "in-between" sport
didn't exist. Like most people, who put a lot of work into their passions, we
like to win now & then. So do our horses, & believe me - they KNOW. So,
though we are continuing for the time being - we are both one horse people,
and won't jepordize our "family members" for our ego's.

Our next choise will be to spend those $, (& ride fees are very pricy for a
husband/wife team), to take off for the mountains, camp, & ride.

Just for the record -
