To help alleviate the muck- wood shavings will be churned into the mud and
only make it deeper. In addition, if you do get wood shavings make absolutely
sure that there is no walnut shavings in there because it is highly toxic to
horses when it's used for bedding. I used to have a similar probelm in front
of my barn and solved it by having the excavator come and shove the muck out
of the way and bring in a load of of 1/2 inch stone and then a load of
screenings or granite dust or whatever your
part of the country calls it. You do have to remove the muck first or whatever
you put down is going to disappear into the abyss. This pad has probably saved
a life or two when we have had ice for weeks on end and the horses needed a safe
place to stand. -Amy
